Her activities at Sabanci University Information Center: Online Catalog


 

She received her B.Sc. (1989) in Librarianship from Istanbul University and her MSc degree in Management and Organization Science (1997) from Marmara University. She is a recent graduate of an Office Administration with Technology Program at British Columbia Institute of Technology. The program is very intensive and highly practical a hands-on program that focuses on advanced computer and business skills required for office administrators followed by a 2-month practicum. It covers proficiency in using desktop applications such as Microsoft office, visio and desktop publishing, website development and maintenance as well as business courses including finances, accounting software, and business communications.

She started her career as a cataloger and worked as a Cataloguing Specialist in AtatĂĽrk Library from 1989 to 1990; as a Head of Cataloging Department in Istanbul Technical University Central Library from 1990 to 1998. She joined Sabanci University in February 1998 for the establishment of the Information Center’s cataloging, OPAC system, and collection maintenance services. She worked as a Cataloguing Specialist and Technical Services Manager until June 2009.  She was appointed as the Director of Information Center in July 2009. She held this position until May 2013.

She possessed more than 24 years of progressive experience in the technical and user services areas such as cataloging, collection development, circulation, ILS software, digital collections, assessment and evaluation services, federated search engines, and reference services. She was in charge of implementing and applying Information Center processes, policies, and standards in a way that fits Sabanci University’s cultural and academic environment.

During the working life, she had carried out various administrative duties and responsibilities.  She supported the executives and employees through a variety of tasks related to organization and communication.

She received “Distinguished Service Award” in 2013 for concrete, successful contributions to research activities and had the active role in implementing administrative processes and applications.

She emigrated to Canada in May 2013. She worked as a customer experience representative at the Indigo Books and Music. She volunteered for the Friends of Vancouver Public Library and Vancouver Coastal Health.

She is currently volunteering for Turkish Canadian Society as a board member as well as publication coordinator and graphic designer of Toplum Magazine.

In national and international venues, she presented papers related to Strategic Management, Total Quality Management, Library Automation, Organization of Information Resources, Collection Development, Digital Libraries, Marketing of Information Services, Assessment and Evaluation Services, Federated Search Engines, Open Access and Institutional Repository.

She loves traveling, reading, trekking, walking her pet dog, volunteering and having some quality of time with her family and friends.
