Melek Akın Ateş is Associate Professor of Purchasing & Supply Management at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey. She studied Business Administration and International Trade and Finance at Izmir University of Economics, Turkey and pursued a master’s degree in Supply Chain Management at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, in the Netherlands. She got her PhD from RSM on the topic of “Purchasing and supply management at the purchase category level: Strategy, structure and performance”. Her main research areas are strategic purchasing, sustainable supply chain management, supply chain complexity, and supply chain resilience. Her work has appeared in International Journal of Operations and Production Management (IJOPM), International Journal of Production Research (IJPR), Journal of Business Logistics (JBL), Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management (JPSM), and Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM). She received the Best Student Paper Prize at the Decision Sciences Conference (2011), Chris Voss Highly Commended Award at the EurOMA/POM World Conference (2012), Chan Hahn Best Paper Award Finalist at the Academy of Management Conference (2014), JSCM Top Cited Article Award (2023, 2024), and JBL Top Cited Article Award (2025). She also received JPSM Best Reviewer Award (2018), JSCM Outstanding Reviewer Award (2024), JPSM Outstanding Associate Editor Award (2024), JSCM Outstanding Associate Editor Award (2026), and the Young Scientist Award (BAGEP) of the Science Academy Turkey (2024). She currently serves as a Senior Editor at JSCM, Impact Pathways Associate Editor at IJOPM, and Associate Editor at JPSM.
