MISSION
The Columbia University Summer Institute will explore technology, standardized testing, and alternative assessment as well as American culture, literature, and politics in relation to teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in Turkey. This Institute is designed for educators in higher education in Faculties of Education; Arts and Social Sciences -Western Languages and Literatures, Cultural Studies, International Relations, Humanities- and School of Languages in metropolitan Istanbul and Ankara. Given the broad nature of the curriculum, students and faculty from various programs such as Cultural Studies, Conflict Resolution, and Social and Political Sciences are invited to participate in any part of the program relevant to their interests.
The Institute is supported by the English Language Office (ELO) of the U.S. Embassy?s Office of Public Affairs whose mission is to assist Turkish educational institutions with further development of EFL teaching in Turkey while providing relevant information about American culture, society, and institutions.
