At the end of the term, the university asks students to evaluate the course. Many students ignore this request with various assumptions. Some think that the course is over, so what good will it do for me. Others think that nothing changes as a result and a third group thinks that everything was good, so there is nothing to complain. So this is a post about why you should write an evaluation (not just for my courses of course, but for all your courses).
For one, professors always read the evaluations carefully and makes changes to the course based on feedback. I have personally kept in-class quizzes, switched to always using a microphone, organized slides, started sharing annotated slides,…. . So, your suggestions are always read and evaluated. It may not help you, but it will help others (and maybe very indirectly you as the course improves, so does SU education, and the reputation of your university … :) ).
Another issue is when only people who have something to complain about writes, which results in an unbalanced and unfair view. This overlooks the good aspects in the course and is demotivating to the professors. In fact, whenever a young professor joins the faculty, I warn them to be ready to the negative bias in the evaluations, ahead of time.
So please enter your evaluations – it is a civic duty like voting.
